What if the archival materials I want to use are not digitized?
- Great! We welcome proposals that focus on using physical archival materials. Please consult with the archivist of the materials you want to use.
Are we required to get a CUNY archivist’s review for digital materials available online as well?
- Yes, if you are using any CUNY archival materials (physical or digital) you need the approval of the CUNY archivist responsible for those collections.
Do we need an archivist’s review if we are doing a Wikipedia project that does not include CUNY archival materials?
- No, an archivist’s review is not required if your Wikipedia project does not include archival materials.
Can I use this fellowship opportunity to develop classroom activities for a future semester?
- The expectation of the Faculty Fellowship is that there is an educational deliverable in the Fall of 2026. This can be teaching materials for your class, or alternatively, a public program, speaker series, guide, presentation to your college community, etc. You might consider proposing a project that produces one of these alternative educational deliverables for Fall 2026, while you continue to develop teaching materials for a future semester.
Can fellows use any CUNY archives? Can I use more than one CUNY archives?
- Yes, any CUNY archives is eligible to be used. You may propose using multiple collections and working with multiple archivists (please get approval from each repository). You are not limited only to the collections on your campus.
Can I propose more than one project?
- Yes, please submit two separate applications.
Any other questions? See the Summer 2026 Archives and Open Knowledge Faculty Fellowship section on our website for an overview of the project.
